Bold. Potent. Powerful. Unique. These are just a few of the ways in which Lapsang Souchong can be described.
Highly popular now, this tea was created by accident a very long time ago. Legend has it that during the Qing dynasty, a group of soldiers took over a tea factory in the Wuyi Mountain region as a place to stay for a few days. When they left, the tea workers returned to find that their tea leaves still needed to be dried, but they did not have enough time to dry them in the usual way as they had to be at the market asap. So, the workers decided to light some pine fires and dry the tea over the heat of the fire. What they didn't realize is that the tea leaves would absorb the aroma and flavor of the pine smoke. Once the tea leaves arrived at the market, they became an instant success, and the type of tea we call Lapsang Souchong was born!
While may versions of Lapsang Souchong on the market today are flavored with chemicals and syrups, our Smoke On The Water is all organic and processed in the traditional way over natural pine smoke.
The unique aroma and flavor of this tea is certainly not for everyone, but it is often a favorite of those who do enjoy it. Brew it on its own, or add a little milk and sugar, and see what our Smoke On The Water has to tell you.
